Dawn Larsen
Oldest sister, storyteller/singer-songwriter, Dawn grew up in the Ozarks amid lots of mountain music, arts, storytelling, beautiful hills and rivers. She taught herself to play guitar at 13. At a family gathering at about that age, after she had finished singing and was taking a break, her mother pulled her aside and asked, "Don't you know anything besides death and dying music?" She's proud to play Americana music, which is full of "death and dyin," an integral part of the human condition.
She's been described as: "Part Patty Griffin... part Todd Snider...part Linda Ronstadt...ALL honest, soulful lyrics combining Americana, alt-Country, Blues, and Folk musical styles while exploring life as a progressive hillbilly girl living in the deep south."
These days her day job is as a professor of theatre. She's currently touring (mainly virtually these days) three different solo shows: Granny's FixIt: An Ozark Guide to Healing the Body and Soul, The Vicious Hillbilly or Dating in the Deep South, and Maxine Lacey: Tent Show Actress.
Dawn has two CDs of original music out, The Vicious Hillbilly released in 2016 and Hillbillyland released in 2019. She travels and performs house concerts all over the US.
She founded and operated the last traveling Toby tent show in the country and researches and publishes about that and tent theatre.
