Aired 11/15/20 Dawn, Deidre and Dina Cottey College is a private women's college in Nevada, Missouri. It was founded by Virginia Alice (Cottey) Stockard in 1884. Since 1927 it has been owned and supported by the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a philanthropic women's organization based on Des Moines, Iowa, which is the only college in the USA owned by and for women. It was founded as a preparatory school for girls and women, and by 1932 was a two-year liberal arts college. Dorms P.E.O. Hall is the oldest of the existing dormitories, and was erected in 1939. It has 10 suites, housing about 100 students. It was the first building to be paid by the P.E.O. Sisterhood after they acquired the college.[14] Reeves Hall was built in 1949 on the site where a prior Cottey dorm, Missouri Hall, had burned down in 1940.[15] Like P.E.O., it houses 10 suites and about 100 students. It is noted for having the largest basement of the three halls, and a foyer reminiscent of a classic hotel lobby. Robertson Hall (Robbie) was the last Cottey dorm to be built, being erected in 1959. It houses 14 suites (about 150 students) as well as the college's dining facility, Raney Dining Hall and the Centennial Room. It is noted for being the only hall with air conditioning and an elevator, and for having the smallest basement. Cottey has had several prior dormitories, including Rosemary Hall (est. 1903) and Missouri Hall (1928–1940). Main Hall was also used as a dorm from 1884 to 1939 Pat “Patsy”Jones Larsen - 1957, Reeves, Rec Rat, Magnoperian Dawn Larsen - 1981, Robbie, Louisiana Suite, Class songleader 1980, Robbie songleader 1981, Delta Psi Omega, current PEO, PEO International Scholar’s Award 1998 Deidre 1987, Delta Psi Omega theater fraternity, Grommet, Former PEO Dina - 1994, Robbie, Rat 94, Campuswide songleader 94, Rosemary Suite 93 The Hooch The Daisy 1 ½ oz base spirit (gin, tequila, rum, whiskey, brandy or vodka) ¾ oz orange or elderflower liqueur (for a sweet kick)* ¾ oz fresh lemon juice 2 bar spoons of grenadine, raspberry jam or raspberry syrup* soda water optional garnishes: fresh mint sprig, fresh berries *Alternative: omit either the sweet liqueur or the grenadine/raspberry and use only a ½ oz of lemon juice. Dawn and Dina
Ozarks Haints N Hooch features two sisters from the Ozarks, Dawn Larsen and Dina Larsen Gillman. They gather bi-monthly remotely from two different states to offer stories about Ozark ghosts, monsters, superstitions, people, places, lore, and history - with a bonus twist, a cocktail themed to the feature story. Grab some hooch and join them, but know that “this ain’t no fancy, academic, check your references, kinda deal. We are two sisters from the Ozarks sipping and spewing about haints, hooch, and history.” Archives
