Pam considers herself a native Arkansan although her folks “went west to seek fame and fortune” soon after they married. She was born in California and started kindergarten in Washington state. Her dad played in a western-swing band in the big dance halls popular at the time, and her mom sang at music parties they would host at their home. There was always music in the house. Her folks moved back to northwest Arkansas, where they were both raised, just in time for Pam to start first grade.
Her first performance was singing with her dad at a community building on Saturday nights when she was six. Those shows were taped live and replayed on a radio program that aired early Sunday mornings. She studied piano and guitar, and sang at every opportunity. Her interest in dance began when she was a cheerleader in high school.
Pam received her B.S.E. degree in dance from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Her education was a long and winding path. She quit and returned several times for various reasons…professional work, touring, an alternative education year in NYC, getting married… finally diploma was in hand.
She moved to Nashville, TN in hopes of breaking into the music business. That course was sidelined and she went back to work rebuilding her career as a theatre performing artist, choreographer and teacher. Nashville has been very good to Pam. She is an award winning choreographer/director in town and has served as resident artist in a variety of positions throughout the southeast for 30 years. One of her favorite on-going gigs is as Teaching Artist for TN Performing Arts Center education programs. Be kind to one another!
